Time is money
We use that term often but rarely take time to appreciate what it truly means. Money is the bottling of time. When you give someone money for a product or service you are giving them time in the form of an object – Money. The best way to make a substantial amount of money is to leverage how much time you spend accumulating it. Spending long hours is not the answer. Grouping your appointments is.
Mobile Haircuts are too expensive for some clients
There are plenty of customers who can afford to have a mobile barber come out to their private home, office or hotel room and if you charge accordingly, you can make a handsome amount of money servicing them. But if you are only servicing individual clients throughout the day, you’re missing out on so much earning potential.
Your average clients may find that the cost of having a mobile barber service them at their house is too expensive but they will be more than happy to spend time with friends at their home or office getting lower-cost group haircuts and hanging out.
#1 Rule for Barbers – Down Time is expensive!
Be creative with scheduling! You do not have to work long hours to make several hundred dollars per day. You can allow bookings, on your online scheduler, for individual clients Monday through Wednesday. Higher-end appointments Thursday and Friday. You can schedule hair units for men or braiding. Weekends can be time for group appointments for game day with friends, weddings. and other get-togethers. I’ve created a breakdown of potential income from hosted group hair cuts in THIS ARTICLE.
Group Haircuts create the best of the Barbershop experience
Barbershops can be a magical place and at times, the experience of laughing and having fun with fellow barbers and customers makes you want to go back and have that experience again and again. Group Haircuts appointments have a party atmosphere.
Work less – Make More
Working 12 to 14 hours a day can make you up to $400 a day as a barber but you can make the same amount of money in half the amount of time by working smart. Spend more time recuperating. If you allow yourself to get burned out, you become complacent and can make yourself vulnerable to become sick or you start to make mistakes. Adding Group Haircuts to your schedule allows you to make more money in a shorter amount of time. You also may have more fun hanging around a group of customers and enjoying the atmosphere with them. Leverage your time at every opportunity because a great schedule is a lot more profitable than waiting around for customers in a barbershop.
Take advantage of Monday and Tuesdays
Mondays and Tuesdays are the slowest days for barbershops and sometimes mobile barbers. You can actually make these days your busiest days ever. Schedule your drastically reduced group haircuts during these days. You can schedule 3 appointments with groups of 5 where each individual only pays $10 to $12 for their haircut.
A friend of mine in Chicago schedules video game tournaments in his basement every Tuesday and while “contestants” wait for their turn to play, they are getting haircuts by a mobile barber. When I asked him how he came up with the idea, he said the barber was the one who actually came up with the tournament idea. “He brings two buckets of chicken wings of different flavors with him for his customers and even participates in the tournament. Within a couple of hours, he clears about $150 in haircut payments and tips and moves on to his next appointment.”
From what I understand, it started out with just 3 guys hanging out to 8 to 10 guys showing up and making it their scheduled haircut stop. This summer, they moved the tournament from the basement into the garage because of the number of friends that show up which is bringing more attention in the neighborhood. The barber is thinking about bringing another barber with him if the tournament gets any bigger.
